Elżbieta Bieńkowska will become Deputy Prime Minister and will manage the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development. The new Government department is established by merger of the Ministry of Regional Development and the Ministry of Transportation, Construction and Maritime Economy.
Born on 4 February 1964 in Katowice. She graduated from Oriental Philology, Jagiellonian University, Krakow. She also graduated from National School of Public Administration and postgraduate MBA studies at Warsaw School of Economics.
Throughout her entire professional career, Ms Bieńkowska has been associated with the implementation of European funds. In 1999-2007, she was Director of the Regional Development Section, Local Government Office of the Silesian Region.
In 1999 she was Katowice Voivode’s officer for the Development Strategy for the region. Earlier, she worked at the Economy Department of the Voivodeship Office in Katowice, where her activities included participation in work on a regional contract for the voivodeship.
In 2007-2013 – Minister of Regional Development.
Expert in international projects, academic teacher and author of publications.
Recipient of many prestigious honours for professional achievement, including Kisiel Prize, Platinum Laurels for Skills and Competence, Grzegorz Palka Prize. In 2012 she was conferred the distinction of the Grand Officer of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit by Kong Harald V for her commitment to building friendly relationships and cooperation between Poland and Norway and effective implementation of Norwegian Financial Mechanisms.
She is fluent in English.
